Stop Lidl Lewes
"It is not a field of a few acres of ground, but a cause, that we are defending, and whether we defeat the enemy in one battle, or by degrees, the consequences will be the same." Thomas Paine
Lidl has submitted a ‘major development’ planning application that would occupy a ‘Gateway / Opportunity Site*’ – at the junction of Malling Street and Brooks Road (including the old funeral home, medical centre, car show room and warehouses behind).

Lidl's Inappropriate Plan
This proposal goes against the spirit of the Brooks Road Planning Brief, which encourages high-quality, mixed-use redevelopment of the area — ideally including housing and light industrial or creative workspaces. A large-format supermarket and car park do not reflect this vision.
While the formal objection period has now closed, it’s not too late to raise awareness and push for a better outcome for Lewes.
